This pet peeve has grown from my general grammar and spelling pet peeve category. "Architecting" has reared its ugly head so many times recently that it has earned special attention. Not for the squeamish...
I absolutely want to shove the sharp end of a pencil in my ear every time I hear someone use the word "architect" as a verb. Yes, I said verb. As in: "I architected a brand-new computer program." It always comes from IT people, by the way. More than one of my techie classmates, apparently unsatisfied with their lot in life as a programmer, have referred to their method of creation as "architecting." Each time this phrase is used, I practically convulse with involuntary cringing and eye-rolling. It takes every bit of restraint in my body to not approach the offender after class and explain to them that, as MBA students, our vocabulary should be adequate enough to avoid making up new words. Not to mention the insult this delivers to real architects, who, for the record, do not architect buildings, they design buildings. Novel idea.
